Samuel L. Jackson
just yeeting the link to the whole interview here in case people want it (the entire interview is about Samuel L. Jackson’s life and career more generally, but this quote comes from his answer to a question about how he got started in activism)
Besides providing text ID for the image, I really want to include the full quote leading up to it. This was the tail end of Samuel L. Jackson’s recounting of his activism as a Black man who came of age during segregation in the U.S. Racism can’t be divorced from classism.
You went to Morehouse, and I believe it was during college that you became more politically active. You were an usher at Martin Luther King, Jr.’s funeral. How did your activism first start?
—
I guess it happened when I was a freshman in college in the fall of ‘66. I have a cousin who’s the same age as I am. He went to the army, I went to college. Three months later, he was dead, walking point in Vietnam.
And I met the first guys at Morehouse, these dudes with afros and fists made out of jump cord and all this other stuff, telling us that if we didn’t stay in school, we were going to end up in the war and we’re going to be dead. And we’re like, “What fucking war?” So that’s when I started paying attention to the war.
The civil rights movement was already happening. I was already connecting with people like Stokely Carmichael and Rap Brown and those guys, and not specifically wanting to be part of Dr. King’s movement. I wasn’t going to sit on some lunch counter and let somebody spit on me, hit me and do that shit. I was not a nonviolent protester.
So that was the beginning, basically, of my activism. Being a certain age and looking at the world and identifying it for what it is and what it becomes, which is why as soon as I hear “Make America Great Again,” I go, “When are we talking about again? Are we talking about back when we had apartheid?” I grew up in segregation in Tennessee. I went to school with Black kids ‘cause we couldn’t go to school with white kids. I saw Klan marches and Klan rallies. So I know what America used to be. When I hear them say, “Let’s make it that again,” it just makes my blood boil.[Image text: I’m 74. I don’t know how much longer I’m going to be around here raising hell or doing what I’m doing. But people need to start understanding that the economic gap is crazy. I pay an enormous amount of taxes, and it’s fine because I know I should. But why can’t we get billionaires to pay their fucking taxes? If those motherfuckers paid their taxes we’d solve a whole bunch of shit. And they would still be richer than every motherfucker walking around them. /text]

Always nice when math helps make it all the more clear how ridiculously reasonable the worker demands are.
This is what the studios have brought everything to a grinding halt for.

tbh i think The Children are missing out on having never experienced illegally downloading music from limewire
spotify has created a soft generation
where are the SEARCHING skills???
where is the PATIENCE of waiting for a download????
where the practice of self-control against the RAGE when you downloaded a song only to find out you got punked with alternate audio????
where is the ATTENTION TO DETAIL of going through your songs and manually correcting all the names???
where is the community aspect of gathering around The Family Computer during sleepovers while you downloaded every virus known to man for love of ke$ha???
this was a right of passage, and we all came out better for it

Me taking my hypothetical children to pride:
See that man in the dog mask? He’s playing a game of make believe with his friends to have fun, just like we do! See how his tail is wagging?
See that man with a gun? He’s part of a violent institution that serves the ruling elite and upholds white supremacy. Fifty years ago he would have been raiding all these bars and arresting us all. He could shoot you in the face right now and probably not even lose his job. If he tries to talk to you, remember to say, “I won’t speak with you unless I have an attorney present.”

What the everliving hell?
Your not friendly reminder that cops stole more monetary value then all burglaries in 2020, and that is only dwarfed by time theft by American businesses.
If you have a problem with “thugs looting”, start here.
this is absolutely fucking pathetic now every single fucking streaming service is gonna start doing this shit. all y'all had to do was not watch Netflix and let it flop for a few months and they would have given up
Y'all still actually watch netflix?
i know it’s easier to see a headline and get angry about it online than it is to look into the source, but if we all did a little digging, it’s evident that this is misinformation. the source is a blog post from a tech startup that is advertising their data analysis services to other streaming companies. the spike in subscribers (which lasted for two days) occurred over a four day period, of which, only the 26th and 27th of may had above average signups, the previous two days were under 50k signups per day.
what their data (purposely) fails to show is the sharp decline in signups between the 27th of may and the first of june, the day that these features rolled out, because their chart cuts off before the password sharing crackdown even went into effect. their data also does not count the number of cancelled subscriptions, and does not distinguish between free trial sign ups and paid subscription sign ups.
they are trying to make netflix look good to advertise their services. this is marketing, not actual data analysis.

literally fuck companies that don’t want their employees to act “unprofessional” in front of customers. I’m at a five guys rn and the employees here are joking around calling orders back and forth to each other and saying things in weird voices and laughing with each other while they work. Someone just came in for their shift while I was waiting for my food and was greeted by the whole kitchen with a secret handshake lookin thing. It was so silly and cute I love seeing ppl have fun at work and I know my food’s gonna be bomb bc the ppl there are having fun with each other. Let employees be people and friends and have fun what is the issue!!!!
Hate to be the guy who takes this post very seriously but the reason bosses don’t like this and don’t encourage it is because what follows is talking about wages and treatment at work and then unionizing lol
